Last week, Playstation announced through its blog the list of the most downloaded PS4, PS VR, and Free to Play games in the Playstation Store in the US as of June 2020. There were a lot of promising new entries on the list. On the other hand, some games have remained stable since May. In this article, we’ll try to cover why these games made it to the top positions. If you’re looking for new hot games to play, this list will serve as your guide.
The Most Downloaded PS4 Games
Despite its controversies, there are still a few outrages from the fans due to the character development of Abby. And even the real bashing and hounding of the voice actress Laura Bailey and game director Neil Druckmann, and polarised online reviews, The Last of Us Part II remains on top of the most downloaded games in the US. The gaming community gets divided between the people who want to play the game as it is and the ones who want to pay attention to the underlying principles of the game. Regardless, the numbers speak for itself; the game remains to be the number one most downloaded game in the PlayStation store. Although, it doesn’t necessarily equate to the quality of the game.
The top 2 until 5 are contenders from May: Call of Duty: Modern Warfare which stays firm and remains in the same position. Grand Theft Auto V, which was the number one most downloaded game, goes down to the third spot. Also, EA SPORTS FIFA 20 ranked up to the13th place. Next, Is the Minecraft Game which was previously the third most downloaded game. The Last of Us Remastered which enters the list along with its sequel. Marvel’s Spider-Man, Minecraft Dungeons, UNO, and Tom Clancy’s Rainbow Six Siege; Are all new entries except for Minecraft Dungeons which previously held the sixth spot last May.
The games that made it to the latter part of the list are Days Gone, Mortal Kombat 11, Red Dead Redemption 2, SpongeBob SquarePants: Battle for Bikini Bottom – Rehydrated, Madden NFL 20, God of War, The Forest which got the lowest drop from fifth last May, Assassin’s Creed Odyssey which also attained another massive drop in ranking from eighth last May. EA Sports UFC 3, and Assassin’s Creed Origins.

For the PS VR, the number one most downloaded game is the gore, gladiator arena themed game GORN which is famous for its humorous graphics and violence. It is certainly not for the young and the faint of heart. The top 2 until 5 are games from last May: Superhot VR which rose from the fifth spot. The Walking Dead: Saints & Sinners which was last May’s number one most downloaded game. Beat Saber and Job Simulator which went down by one spot. Up next is Astro Bot Rescue Mission, Creed Rise to Glory, The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim VR, Blood & Truth, and Borderlands 2 VR. All of them are new entries except for Creed Rise to Glory which stayed in the same spot since May.
Final Thoughts
There are only a few newly released games that made it the list namely. The Last of Us Part II, Minecraft Dungeons, and UNO shows how the gaming community reacts to new games. It seems that already established games remain to be the top choice of gamers. However, in looking for quality, it is best to consider that the number of downloads does not immediately mean that a game is perfectly reasonable. Aside from the player’s preference, reviews and gaming experience should also get considered. It is one factor when deciding on the quality of a game.
Although the popularity of a game should speak volumes as to how well the community received the game. You may see the full list, including the Free to Play games, DLC, and Expansions here. In conclusion, there is an almost equal balance between new and old entries in terms of popularity. Thus, previously released games are still dominating the rankings compared to the new ones.
