Fans and gamers alike are fervently anticipating the release of Spider-Man: Miles Morales by the end of this year. This is a follow-up to the highly-acclaimed Marvel’s Spider-Man game in 2018. Game developer, Insomniac, has released information regarding the direction they will take for the upcoming sequel. Most especially, they revealed their plans about Miles Morales’ story arc. Here’s what you need to know.
Plans for Miles Morales’ Story Arc
According to Insomniac’s Bryan Intihar, they have extensively outlined Miles’ story arc as they were developing the first Spider-Man game. The studio has long-term plans since both Peter and Miles’ narratives will be instrumental to weave the ever-expanding Marvel game universe.
Inthar remarked that one of the reasons they decided to steer Miles’ progression in the first game was to convince people that he is a Spider-Man now. In other words, the developers intended to flesh out Miles’ character from the beginning. Gamers can play and get to know him more while he indulges in web-swinging and crime-fighting action. Players will also witness how Miles slowly adapts to the other aspects and responsibilities of being a superhero.
Various Spider-Men in Games
As far as where Miles’ place in the Marvel Video Game Universe is, Marvel Games’ Bill Roseman noted that the company has a different approach when it comes to handling multiple Spider-Man storylines across video games.
Apart from Peter Parker and Miles Morales, there is also another playable Spider-Man in the upcoming Marvel’s Avengers game. It is not the same Peter Parker that was created by Insomniac, but fans don’t have to worry because it is still based on the classic comics era.
To create a better narrative, the decision to have multiple Spider-Men in various game titles is made. Mainly, it helps establish an interconnected multiverse where various iterations can have their own universe and even interact with one another. The premise is similar to that of the recent “Into the Spider-Verse” movie. This allows fans to play different versions of Spider-Men and explore their respective worlds as the Spider-Verse continues to shape up in the gaming world.
Upping Spider-Man’s Performance
Insomniac has incredibly managed to seamlessly translate cinematic web-slinging action into a high quality video game. This is one of the reasons why Marvel’s Spider-Man is hailed as one of the best superhero games. Aside from that, the game has fluid controls and exceptional gameplay on top of breathtaking visuals of New York City!
Insomniac Games are doubling down on fine-tuning this memorable experience for Spider-Man: Miles Morales. The game now includes a Performance Mode which allows players to experience the game in 4K and 60 frames per second (FPS).
Performance Mode will take advantage of the PS5’s much talked-about processing power. Last year, they compared the first Spider-Man game’s loading times for the PS4 and PS5. The PS4 timed in 8.10-second loading times while the PS5 timed in an astonishingly fast 0.83-second loading time.
This means that gamers who will get a PS5 can crawl, sprint, and swing their way across Manhattan in higher resolution. Fans also speculate that a remastered version of Marvel’s Spider-Man will be included for PS5.
Spider-Man: Miles Morales Parental Rating
For those wondering what the game’s rating will be, it has been reported that South Korea rated Spider-Man: Miles Morales with a ‘15’ Rating. It is the first country to release a rating for the game.
A ‘15’ Rating means that the game is suitable for ages 15 and up. Other countries have yet to release their age rating, but fans speculate that the sequel might get the same PEGI rating with that of the first installment. This means that it might have a PEGI 16 rating.
Marvel’s Spider-Man: Miles Morales is slated to be one of PS5’s launch titles for its Holiday 2020 release date.
