It’s not just the main characters who are interesting. But even the side characters are challenging and you’ll surely enjoy interacting with them.

But with so many good Silent Hill characters, which among them is the best one? This is what we’ll answer in this article. We’ll list down some of the best characters in the series.

Who are the Silent Hill Characters that Stood Out

Interesting characters are one of the main reasons people enjoyed playing Silent Hill. In this section, we’ll identify some of the best characters in the series that really stood out among the rest.

James Sunderland (Silent Hill 2)

One of the best characters in the series is the Silent Hill 2 protagonist, James Sunderland. Many consider the second game one of the best horror games and one of the reasons is the Silent Hill protagonist. James went to Silent Hill to search for his wife who sent him a letter. But his wife already died three years ago because of illness and this provides an interesting plot for a horror game already.

But more than the plot, it’s how James played his role that made the game more fun and interesting. From the moment you start the game until you complete it, James will never cease to interest you. His actions, the decisions he makes, and everything that will happen will keep you on the edge of your seat.

Heather Mason (Silent Hill 3)

A close second to James Sunderland is Heather Mason, who is a female protagonist of Silent Hill 3. She is a character that was raised by Harry Mason, the protagonist in Silent Hill. She was just a baby in the first game but she’s 17 in this game now. Though you won’t know it when you start playing, she’s the reincarnation of the daughter that Harry Mason was searching for, Cheryl, and of Alessa Gillespie. She’s a beloved character because she brings a new perspective to the game.

She’s very different from the first two protagonists in the series. Aside from her being a woman, she’s also only 17. But despite her young age, she already experienced a lot. This makes her strong and will not just cower in the face of adversity.

Harry Mason (Silent Hill)

A list of the best Silent Hill characters won’t be complete without the first playable character that started it all, Harry Mason. Harry is one of the more well-liked characters and is considered by many fans the most honorable one in the game. His reason for going to Silent Hill is a noble one since he just wants to save his daughter. And as you play him, you’ll see that no danger is too great for him to overcome. He will do whatever it takes to make sure he can save his daughter.

Aside from a noble reason, he is also one of the few characters in the game who didn’t have a troubled past. This is what makes him truly honorable. Unfortunately, he had to be killed off-screen in Silent Hill 3. If it weren’t for James and Heather, he may be the best Silent Hill protagonist in the series.

Pyramid Head (Silent Hill 2)

The first antagonist on this list is none other than the Pyramid Head. It’s a humanoid monster making its first appearance in Silent Hill 2. The monster is a manifestation of James’ guilt and his desire to be punished. You can say that he is the dark side of the Silent Hill protagonist. Pyramid Head is an iconic villain and one of the scariest monsters in the game. He made appearances in many video games other than the Silent Hill series.

Another thing that makes this character interesting is that this monster will attack everything, even other monsters you encounter. He is truly the stuff of nightmares and is one of the reasons why you’ll always be anxious when playing Silent Hill 2.

Angela Orosco (Silent Hill 2)

When it comes to interesting side characters, the Silent Hill series has plenty of that as well. And on top of that list is Angela Orosco, who appeared in Silent Hill 2. Like many of the side characters in the series, she has a tragic past. She suffered physical and mental abuse from both her father and her brother. What’s more, her mother also said that she deserved the abuse she received, which adds to her tragic past.

She exacts revenge on her father and brother by killing them. In Silent Hill, her real intention is to find her mother. Unfortunately, she won’t be accompanying you on your journey since she’ll meet her demise. It’s going to be one of the most tragic cutscenes you’ll see in the game when she walks toward the flames.

Alessa Gillespie (Silent Hill)

Another interesting character in the series is Alessa Gillespie. She is a key character in Silent Hill since she possesses supernatural abilities. Alessa is the one responsible for the creation of the Otherworld in Silent Hill. Unfortunately, this ability of her is also what brought her tragic past. She was brought up by the cult known as the Order. Then, they planned on getting her impregnated with the child of the god that the cult is worshipping.

Unfortunately, the ritual left her severely burned and it led to her being kept in the hospital for seven years. Everything that’s happened to her, and her likely role in Silent Hill’s plotline makes her an interesting character.

Lisa Garland (Silent Hill)

Alessa Gillespie was kept alive thanks to Lisa Garland, a nurse at Alchemilla Hospital. When you first encounter her, you’d think Lisa is oblivious to what’s happening in the world outside the hospital. But as you uncover more about her, you see that she is only like that because of a psychedelic drug known as PTV. She is a heavy user of the drug and is being manipulated by Dr. Michael Kaufmann.

She gets PTV in exchange for keeping Alessa alive. Dr. Kaufmann made Lisa suffer tremendously. Though she may not remember what happened, her body does, which is why she started bleeding all over when her memory unlocks. She has a very tragic backstory, and seeing her get her revenge on Dr. Kaufmann is one of the most satisfying things in the game.

Walter Sullivan (Silent Hill 4: The Room)

The last interesting Silent Hill character on the list is Walter Sullivan. He is the antagonist of Silent Hill 4: The Room. Walter Sullivan is a character that was adopted as a child by The Order and was made to learn and believe in their beliefs. He is a very imposing and determined character and is willing to do anything to see his mother again. Walter believed he can do that if he completed the 21 Sacraments of their cult.

This led him to many people in the process and ended up being killed as well. But death didn’t stop him, he still kept on killing just, to complete the ritual and see his mother.
