What to Expect From League of Legends’ Spirit Blossom Showcase

Features News

Continuing with their tradition of celebrating the changing of seasons, League of Legends (LoL) unveiled their Spring Blossom showcase on July 22 to tie in with this year’s summer season. This year puts the spotlight on Ionia’s Spring Blossom Festival. A time when the door to the spirit world is opened—and both living and dead could interact with one another. Now, let’s take a closer look at what this patch has to offer for avid League of Legends fans.

One Confirmed and One Teased Champion

The Spring Blossom Showcase patch welcomes Lillia, the Bashful Bloom. She is the 149th Champion that Riot has released for League of Legends, and has her lore connected to the upcoming event. Lillia is slated to be a ranged mage-jungler, coming out of the brush to help her team with quick ganks. But with all of her abilities having AP values, she might also see some action in the mid lane.

Another champion in the Spring Blossom event is Yone. Yone and Yasuo are half-brothers and powerful swordsmen who live in a small village. However, Yasuo was accused of murdering their master following a Noxian invasion. For this reason, Yone was forced to hunt down Yasuo. However, Yasuo bested Yone. Yasuo still bears the guilt of Yone and their master’s death. Even though it was revealed that Riven was the one who killed their master.

Building Up the Lore

Yone and Lillia’s story are connected to the three Spring Blossom short stories—Perennial, Beyond the Garden, and The Path. These stories further develop the narratives between the champions who are part of the Spring Blossom event.

This keen eye on developing in-game lore between characters has been one of Riot Games’ ongoing projects to further flesh out their champions and make the world of Runeterra feel more alive and full of intriguing stories for players to discover.

Riot Games have begun their world and lore-building by releasing web comics series and one-shots that dive deeper into champions’ narratives. To date, they have released comics about Zed, Lux and Ashe. Ryze, Varus, Ziggs, Jinx, Nami, Miss Fortune, and Darius each have one-shot stories. All of these comics and one-shots are free online.

New Spring Blossom Skins

As with their recent showcases and big events, Spring Blossom shall have new Spring Blossom-themed skins for their champions. The confirmed champions who will have spring skins are Yasuo, Vayne, Thresh, Teemo, and Lillia, with Teemo having a Prestige version of the skin.

Players can also purchase chroma variants for each skin at the in-game store. Each chroma variant will allow players to purchase different color patterns for their Spring Blossom skins. Cassiopeia, Riven, Kindred, and Yone might also have Spring Blossom skins down the line.

Other Spring-Themed Festivities

Just like previous events, LoL players will have Spring Blossom quests available for them to accomplish—thanks to the patch. Completing these quests will grant them blue essence as well as event-specific tokens that can be used as in-game currency. Skins, chroma packs, summoner icons, emotes, and other bundles available during the event can be purchased using in-game currency. These events typically run for about three weeks to a month from the release date.
