Reviews

Blizzard Entertainment Inc. is slowly increasing its footprint in mobile. Before, it only had Hearthstone available for mobile players. But now they’re introducing popular titles to mobile like the Warcraft Arclight Rumble, along with Diablo Immortal. The Warcraft franchise is one of the most popular titles that Blizzard has, having been around since 1994. This latest Warcraft game is a mobile strategy game that’s scheduled for release in the second half of 2022. Early limited access, though, was provided. So, is it a good game to play? Find out more here.

What is Warcraft Arclight Rumble?

As mentioned earlier, Warcraft Arclight Rumble is a mobile strategy game that’s set within the Warcraft universe. Since it’s within the Warcraft universe, this means that you can expect characters from the franchise to be used here. The game calls them Minis and there are 65 of them to collect. In terms of gameplay, it’s a bit similar to that of Clash Royale where you set down Minis that would move forward and attack enemies.

Unlike Clash Royale, there isn’t much focus on competitive multiplayer gameplay, though it’s available. Instead, it focuses more on single-player where it relies more on the tower defense gameplay. Aside from the strategic gameplay, you’ll also be required to level up your Minis and build a strong team to help you progress and complete levels. The level gets tougher as you progress. You will also face boss levels, so having strong Minis is important. You can see from the game’s description that it might seem like a great game to play. Though it seems like a good game, are there issues that need to be addressed?

Are There Issues with the Warcraft Arclight Rumble?

It’s not unusual for Warcraft Arclight Rumble to have issues considering the early access provided was still in the beta phase. So, there were bugs and issues. For this section, I won’t be talking about that since it’s expected with a beta version. Instead, we’ll be discussing more serious matters that can make the game annoying to play for many people.

The Reward System Needs Improvement

One of the main issues with Warcraft Arclight Rumble is that progression can be very difficult. It’s because of the reward system that the strategy game has. When you complete a level, you earn in-game currency that you can use to unlock new characters. Furthermore, new characters will help you get past the roadblock that a new level will present to you. The problem here is that in-game currency is only earned after completing a level for the first time.

If you repeat a level, you won’t earn any more in-game currency. Instead, you can just earn experience for your character. I can pose an issue because it makes progress difficult. For instance, you’ll encounter roadblocks at every new level you go to, which can be addressed with a new character. But if earning in-game currency is limited, your progression will also be limited. Sure, you can level up your current characters to make them stronger and help address the roadblock. But it will take up a lot of time.

You will need to grind early, which can be a big annoyance. To speed it up, the best way to do it is by using real money to purchase the in-game currency. It can be frustrating for someone who’s not comfortable spending money on games. Hopefully, Blizzard can do something about this and modify the reward system to make it fairer for everyone.

A Game Reliant On In-Game Purchases

Another potential issue with Warcraft Arclight Rumble is it’s likely reliant on in-game purchases. Mentioned earlier is the issue with the game’s reward system. You don’t have to pay to advance, but it will take a bit more time on your part to grind just to get ahead. So, you might be forced to pay just to quicken your progression.

Another potential issue here is the grid system, which the game is implementing in its in-game stores. The store will feature 9 items at once available for players to purchase using in-game coins. When you purchase something, the grid will automatically reset, providing you with new items to look at. The items refreshed are random, which means you can’t know what the next items are after the refresh. Sometimes, it can be a problem if you’re looking for a particular item since you need to rely on RNG to potentially make your item available.

You can be lucky if you only need 1 refresh for your needed item to appear. You can also be unlucky, where it takes you several purchases before a refresh gives you the item you need. Another potential issue here is if the grid features several items that you need. You can only select 1 of them and hope that you can get the other items when you refresh again. Therefore, it will cost you many in-game coins just to be able to purchase the items you need.

In-game coins are limited and you can earn them as rewards from the game. The quickest way to get them, though, is by using real money to purchase them. So you’ll need a lot of time to grind or spend real money to quicken your development.

Verdict

Warcraft Arclight Rumble seems like a fun and awesome strategy game that many players will likely enjoy. The beta version showed that the game has great potential. However, there are several issues that Blizzard needs to address first to make the game even better than what it showed in the beta version. Particularly, the in-game purchases. Though it’s great the game doesn’t have a gacha system, which is the bane of free-to-play games, the grid system and reward system here can be very annoying. So if you want to keep updated with this incredible game, stay tuned here in PlayPC.
