Discord on Xbox Voice Chats Available Soon – Beating PlayStation

News

When it comes to the best social messaging platform used for gaming, Discord is likely the go-to platform. It has cross-platform support, which is one of the primary reasons why millions of gamers use it worldwide. Therefore, players will be able to connect and integrate the app on their gaming device, whether it’s a PC, console, or mobile. However, one of the downsides is that some features are not available for the console like the Discord Voice feature. Well, that will all change for the Xbox, as Voice Chats Discord on Xbox is finally happening.

You read that right! The social messaging platform is in the process of making Discord Voice available on the Xbox Series X|S and Xbox One. Thus, players from the different platforms all playing the same game can now use Discord Voice, with the only exception being the PlayStation console (sorry PS players). So let’s discuss in more detail this latest development, as well as how you can set it up on your Xbox.

Discord On Xbox – Voice Chat Coming Soon

The announcement of the integration of voice on the Xbox came from Discord themselves in a post last July 20. Following that announcement, Alpha testing began, as messaging apps invited people to the limited testing of the voice integration. But after a week, the social messaging platform opened Beta testing of the new feature on the Xbox, allowing some Xbox Insiders to try it out.

Microsoft provided an update on the Xbox dashboard for Beta Testers and the update included voice integration on Discord. Since the feature is already in the beta phase, it’s only a matter of time before Discord makes the feature available to all Xbox Series X|S and Xbox One users.

How Do You Activate The Voice Chat Discord on Xbox?

If you are lucky enough and you’re one of those who have beta access, there are steps to use it. Check out the steps we have created below, which you need to do to use the Voice Chat:

You need to connect your Xbox Account to Discord. If you’ve connected it before, you’ll need to connect it again. This step is crucial to allow the latest permissions to access the Voice Chat.

  • Go to User Settings then Connections to find the option to connect your Discord to Xbox.
  • Next, click the Xbox logo and approve the connection.

Once the steps above are down, you will then need to transfer your Voice Call from Discord to Xbox. This step will allow Voice Chat to start working on Xbox.

  • Make sure you have the Xbox Mobile app installed on your mobile device.
  • After that, just go to the channel you want to talk to in Discord.
  • Next, you’ll find a new option that allows you to transfer the call to Xbox.
  • Start the process and just wait for it to complete.

Once it’s done, you are all set and you can start using Voice Chat on your Xbox for the particular channel you’ve transferred.

So, you select which channel from your Discord you want to be able to use the Voice Chat on Xbox. Then just transfer the call to Xbox and you’ll be allowed to use Voice Chat on Xbox for that particular channel. Hence, making it easier for you now to play certain Xbox games across different platforms with your friends. Additionally, you’ll be able to collaborate easier since you can start using the Voice Chat feature.

Xbox is Beating PlayStation When it Comes to the Discord Voice Chat

As Xbox now starts to get Discord Voice Chat on its latest consoles, the Sony PlayStation gets left behind. What’s curious is that Sony had a partnership with Discord for quite a while now. For one, the two companies have been collaborating since 2021. Furthermore, Sony announced they’re working to integrate Discord into their consoles. What’s more surprising is that Sony is not just in partnership with Discord, but they’re also a minority investor.

Therefore, this means that the gaming company practically has an ownership stake in the social messaging platform. But despite all that, PlayStation players still can’t use all the features of Discord on their console. Though some features are already present, one of the important ones that are still missing is Voice Chat. And with this latest announcement of Discord and Xbox, it seems Microsoft beat Sony out for that feature. Hopefully, this can also signal Sony to work on integrating Discord Voice Chat on the PlayStation.

It’s so that PlayStation players can also join collaboration and teamwork efforts when playing together with other platforms. It would be a shame if PlayStation players can’t join in when others are chatting and strategizing during games.

When Will Discord on Xbox Voice Chat Become Available?

There is no timetable yet on when Discord or Microsoft will officially announce the availability of the Voice Chat. But looking at the current progress that’s already being done, it’s likely going to be real soon. So, Xbox users just have to wait a while before they can officially use Discord Voice Chat on their console. For more updates about the integrations of Discord on Xbox, stay tuned here in PlayPC.
