Stranded on Expectations and Reality

Following Kojima’s clash with Konami, which led to the creation of Kojima Productions, he announced Death Stranding at E3 2016. It was a beautiful, yet enigmatic cinematic trailer, featuring the famed Walking Dead actor, Norman Reedus, and a baby, naked. People were at an uproar seeing their favorite Metal Gear developer, and Walking Dead actor collaborate in a video game. Then succeeding reveal trailers featured the iconic Hannibal actor Mads Mikkelsen as one of the characters in the game. Even though no one truly understood what the plot was, the hype was real, and everyone wanted to get Death Stranding.

Fast forward to its release, and it sold 185,909 copies on its debut week, easily the best-selling game in Japan. This was because of its hype brought about by the sheer popularity of its cinematic trailers, and the celebrities in-game. However, upon its release, the game got mixed reviews, some praising it, while others are criticizing the hyped Hideo Kojima game. IGN reviewed the game during its PS4 release calling it “The Walking Dread” because it appeared to be a repetitive walking simulator. And yet they also mentioned the game picks up much later, if you can bear the walking, and fetch quests.

So on that note, what can players expect on the Steam version of Death Stranding this July 14? If you were able to catch it during its pre-purchase period, you’d get high-definition wallpapers and some neat new items. Other features the PC version boasts is its High FPS, a photo mode, and cross-over content with Valve’s HALF-LIFE series. Hideo Kojima fans looking to play the game can check out the specifications it requires on its Steam store page.

Hideo Kojima’s Latest Masterpiece

Death Stranding is an Action Role-playing game developed by ex-Konami Metal Gear director Hideo Kojima, under his company Kojima Productions. It’s the company’s first video game and was released by Sony for the Playstation 4 platform on November 8, 2019. Kojima first teased it at E3 2016 and characterized it as the first “strand game,” an original genre unique to the game. 505 Games handled the PC release, which was initially set in June 2020 but was moved later to July.

Death Stranding stars Walking Dead actor Norman Reedus as the playable protagonist, and Hannibal actor, Mads Mikkelsen as its antagonist. The game revolves around the apocalyptic United States, where a catastrophic event took place that isolated cities from one another. Sam Bridges, played by Reedus, works as a transporter of cargo between these cities. The game features open-world mechanics as players try to fulfill delivery quests while avoiding specters to survive. The game won Best Game Direction, Best Musical Scoring, and Best Performance in The Game Awards 2019 event.

Players can purchase the Hideo Kojima masterpiece on Steam and Epic Games store on July 14, 2020. It offers features unique to the PC version that couldn’t be found on the Playstation 4 version.
