Features

Since the launch of the PlayStation console in 1994, Sony’s PlayStation has been the dominant brand in the console market. Since its inception, the brand has produced four consoles, a VR headset, and two handhelds with a combined unit sales of over 500 million. Most of its success is due to Sony’s unique approach when it comes to exclusive video game titles and consistency in terms of innovation.

With a brand that is successful, no wonder that the PlayStation 5 is one of the most anticipated consoles of the year. To that end, let’s take a quick look at 5 of the features PlayStation fans want to see during the PS5 release this holiday season. Do take note that some features on the list are already official while others are not.

5. Powerful GPU

To get an overview of this feature, we need a brief comparison between the PS5 and its biggest competition Xbox Series X. Besides, as the subject of Graphic Processing Power requires in-depth technical knowledge, let’s take a quick overview of the comparison made by the experts at ExtremeTech. According to their analysis, Xbox Series X shows a clear advantage when it comes to hardware. Nevertheless, the experts also state that PS5 has a clear advantage when it comes to sustained storage and ease of upgrade.

Although its too early to say, Sony, based on its track records remains focused on the console’s performance like the elimination of loading times. On the other hand, Microsoft is still on the path to creating the most powerful console on the planet.

On April 7, 2020, Sony revealed the new PS5 controller and it looks amazing. For one, Sony changed the name from DualShock to Dual Sense. One of the biggest improvements is the shift to USB C, which means that the new controller will have faster charging and longer-lasting batteries. The Dual Sense controller will also replace the rumble technology with haptic feedback. Compared to the rumble technology, haptic feedback replicates a real-life touch experience for a more immersive feel.

Other features of the Dual Sense include adaptive triggers, create button, an audio jack, and an adaptive microphone. Not to mention that the new design is sleek for a controller, let’s just hope that design does not reflect the price.

3. Exclusive Titles

Throwing millions of dollars into the development of exclusive video game titles plays a massive part in making the PlayStation brand stand out from the rest. As Nintendo focuses on party games, Sony is more on the cinematic story-driven titles. Sony maintains its stand in developing some of the most stunning games in the industry.

That said, some of the titles expected for the PS5 include Ghost of Tsushima, Spiderman 2, God of War 2, Horizon Zero Dawn 2, and GodFall.

To most people, the PlayStation VR is still a technology that came too early. Although the technology never really sold millions of units, Sony is not scrapping the technology. The fact that the PlayStation 5 will be compatible with the current PSVR technology according to the experts at TechRadar. Besides, they also state the possibility of a PSVR 2 in the works.

To that end, it’s safe to say that those who happen to own the gadget can expect even greater things to come once the PS5 launches.

1. Backward Compatibility

Backward Compatibility, for the most part, is one of the most requested features for the upcoming console. The feature is not new since the current PS4 system allows players to play old titles digitally. This could be the case with the PS5; however, fans are hoping that the compatibility this time around will apply to physical discs. Although not fully confirmed, there is a huge possibility that the PS5 will have this feature.

In a nutshell, the PS5 may not be as powerful as the Xbox Series X. It all boils down to price, games, and functionality. However, as powerful as it may be, the console remains mediocre due to its price. Not to mention that players need to own those expensive TVs to get the full experience.
