PlayStation 5 – What’s The Latest On The Console’s Stocks?

News

The PlayStation 5 (PS5) was a highly anticipated console. It’s no wonder why many people flocked to it when it was made available last November 12, 2020. The problem was that stocks of the console were limited. January brought a lot of restocks, but it wasn’t enough to accommodate market demands. And as we roll into February, PS5’s availability continues to be an issue. In fact, this month didn’t bring a lot of new stocks.

Some people even opted to give up and purchased the Xbox Series X instead since they can’t get their hands on the latest PlayStation. But all hope is not lost, as there are some updates with regards to the availability of the PS5. In this article let’s discuss the latest stock update of the popular console.

Where Can You Buy PlayStation 5 Right Now?

Though not many stocks of the PS5 were made available at the start of February, some retailers are restocking before the month ends. Let’s take a look at the latest in this section.

In the UK, John Lewis & Partners, Game, Argos, and Amazon have restocked their PS5. But you should refrain from trying out Game and Amazon right now since stocks of the console were reportedly sold out as of this writing. Game’s website even crashed due to the excess traffic that it got after word got out that stocks became available.

John Lewis & Partners will restock on February 16 and March 17. Argos will get their new stocks on February 23 and 24, so there are still some more options for you. You just have to be actively waiting and be quick enough to swoop down their website before stocks run out again.

In the U.S., Best Buy and Target are your top options for getting a PS5 since these 2 stores restock regularly. Meijer also announced that there will be new stocks coming in, but they will be in-store only. The date for its availability is still to be announced. So check their website and social media accounts regularly.

BT.com and EE.com are 2 more retailers that you should watch out for since stocks might come to them any time soon. As for Amazon US, they had a huge restock last January 21, but there hasn’t been any activity yet. However, you must keep an eye on it since Amazon could restock its supply soon.

Why The PS5 is Always Out of Stock

If you have yet to get your hands on the PS5 and you can’t seem to find any stock, you might be asking why this is the case. Well, one of the main reasons is that the demand for the next-gen PlayStation is extremely high. The console has a very large user base and Sony messed up the pre-order process, which resulted in fewer preparations of their stocks.

But a high demand is not the only culprit. Another major reason is that scalpers are using bots to track down PS5 stocks so they can purchase in bulk quickly. Once they have an ample supply of the console, they sell it to desperate people at a significantly higher price.

The PlayStation 5 costs $499.99 (€499.99 / £449.99), which comes with a DualSense controller and a copy of Astro’s Playroom. A cheaper version, which costs $359.99 (€399.99 / £399.99), is also available. But this is the Digital Edition, which means the console doesn’t have a disc drive. All your PS5 games will have to be digital so you can play them on this console.

Now, scalpers would usually sell their PS5 at a double price. There are some who sell it for thousands of dollars, taking advantage of people who are desperate to own a PS5 right away. This practice is generally frowned upon. It’s best to avoid dealing with scalpers and just wait for stores to restock on PS5 units instead.
